Here is the “deleted scenes” from my response to your post on DI. I wanted to keep it concise and not try to compare my situation to yours. After re-reading, however, I just thought you may like to know that others are frustrated and feeling a little overwhelmed too.

Passion…what else is there for a child.

My position does not ask me to teach in a classroom at this time – who knows the future… However, due to re-structuring and downsizing of positions, I am one of four people that SHARE an Activities Director, and as HS principal that lands in my realm a lot. Scheduling (the biggest part) is on our Superintendent, and two other administrators from our MS and ES have duties as well. Much like you, I see things that need to be done and it weighs on me more than others, and so I DO them instead of share it out. Easier, quicker, done. Long-term, not probably the most effective personally. In addition, there are other positions around my building and the district that I seem to find more personally reflective than others or can see that we are short-handed. My belief is that I am responsible for everything that happens in my building, so if it isn’t getting done, I need to address it and make it work – sometimes that means I take the position until a replacement is made.

I say this just so you know you aren’t solo, and it can be done. Several anxiety attacks and sleepless nights ensue, but it can be done. Also my approach to getting the “my time” is different. I am a morning person, and 5-7 am has proven to be a good time for me generally. I also like 4-6 before the home or away event. This is actually when I do my “work” and the rest of the day I am with staff, faculty, and kids. Although we still do paperwork occasionally, it allows me to roam, drop into classrooms, and enjoy the people around me.

You just need to find your niche and be happy with it. My family (wife who works 1/2 an hour away and three kids in school) don’t see me a lot outside of school, but we have made it our hub of activities as much as possible.

You have done your thing, and you know you can. We all hit a wall of doubt at times, but you can scale it.
