mscofino, yes it is harsh but it is necessary. Wes is right, let's get moving.
Ed, be glad to help. I'm always interested in reading what others are doing. I'll get in touch.

Kelley, good thoughts. I'm wondering...would you be interested in providing feedback on a paper I'm writing? It's probably a little off center for the particular concerns your driving at here, but looks at this in relation to a total education. -Ed

I love your final statement:

"Until we shake off these bonds, schools will continue to be places where students come to power down."

This reminds me of a few things Alan November said this weekend, my favorite being:

"If you can't unlearn, don't get in the way."

It's a pretty harsh statement, but necessary. There are teachers and administrators ready to make changes in the way schools are run. If you're not ready for the change just make sure you stay out of the way and let them run with it. To paraphrase Wes Fryer, our kids can't wait - they need for us to be making changes today because the world has already changed.

What a great post! Yes, it is so very important to move past the hype - in fact, I'm so tired of hype discussions I can't even stand it. If I hear one more blogger bemoaning the fact that others just don't "get it," I'll scream. It is about being leaders, for goodness sakes. And leaders don't bemoan that others don't get it! They blaze trails and leave patterns for others to follow, they encourage movement. They don't look at obstacles but see obstacles as opportunities.

It is not about how much you blog or read your RSS -- I'm so behind myself on my "reading." It is about what you do with the time you do blog or read! We all have RL's (real lives) to live and ultimately tools are great but the point is people. People and our future.

Great post! We need more like this! And remember, you don't go on guilt trips unless you pack your bags and go. Don't go -- you are adding to this community, keep going and stay focused.

I can't keep up with those who have far more time to get on the "net" than I. However, I do my best to use that time very wisely.

Thanks for the mention and this insightful continuation of the discussion. If you have not done so i think I will drop a link on my blog and Leadertalk.
Despite your first paragraph I hope you will continue to write and let your voice be heard. Moving on is something we need to do but I think it will also require the sharing and insights we each develop as we explore new objectives.
This Wednesday this will be the topic of our faculty meeting - so I will write more then.
